LE SIÈCLE – One-of-a-Kind Statement Necklace
A century of materials and design brought together in a single necklace.
LE SIÈCLE — The Century — was born from one idea: bringing together elements created in different eras and giving them a new story through contemporary jewellery.
Its long chain is composed of generous ebony links, whose deep black tone and matte finish give the necklace its sculptural character. Fluid and mobile, the oversized links create a bold graphic line that follows the body beautifully.
At the heart of the dark chain are two large ochre oval beads made in France in the 1920s. Their smooth, lustrous surface and warm, almost caramel-like colour create a striking contrast with the depth of the matte ebony.
Between them sits a round Plexiglas bead dating from the 2000s, punctuated with small dark inclusions and deliberately introducing another era and another visual language.
And this is precisely the story behind LE SIÈCLE.
Almost a century separates some of the elements used in this necklace. French beads from the 1920s meet Plexiglas from the 2000s before being brought together today in Paris as an entirely new contemporary creation.
Matte black meets glossy ochre, wood meets transparency, vintage meets contemporary. Materials and eras that were never meant to meet begin a new story together.
Worn over black, as pictured, the necklace becomes particularly graphic: the ebony links almost disappear into the garment while the ochre beads seem to float against the silhouette. Against white, cream or a vivid colour, the chain itself becomes a striking sculptural feature.
Bold enough to transform a minimalist dress or outfit on its own, LE SIÈCLE can also be worn over a jacket, knitwear or an oversized shirt.
A one-of-a-kind piece somewhere between jewellery, object and wearable sculpture.
Handcrafted in my Paris workshop, LE SIÈCLE reflects the BUTTONS PARADISE approach: discovering unusual materials and components, sometimes separated by several decades, and bringing them together in an entirely new creation.
You cannot usually wear a century. Perhaps this one is the exception.
